The Persian Ceiling by Chihuly

The Persian Ceiling by Chihuly

MONTREAL - A veritable garden of glass has bloomed within the walls of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
It's the first major Canadian museum show by landmark American artist Dale Chihuly, who has brought his unique glass creations to the downtown Montreal location until Oct. 20. One part of the exhibition is the Persian Ceiling one of Chihuly’s most popular works. It consists of various series of works in a multitude of shapes, forms, and vivid colors arranged in layers over plates of transparent glass. Subtly lit, the Ceiling creates a kaleidoscopic effect of infinite repetition, suggesting the magical space of a Persian carpet.

Here are some Photos and his artist statement

Don’t miss this show if you are in Montreal!

Indigo Obsession

I have been obsessed with using the colour indigo blue in my work, including my paintings and drawings.
I have always been drawn to blue, especially indigo, and when I am deciding my pallet this colour comes very intuitively to me.
Growing up in the Middle East, I saw a lot of blue in tile works and handy crafts. I believe that the culture and geography of the land in which you grew up has a great influence on your subconscious colour memory. No matter where you travel or live the colours that you felt will be forever in your memory.

Here is some of my Indigo Obsession collection

" Culture is something that evolves out of the simple, enduring
Elements of everyday life; elements most thoughtfully expressed
in the folk arts and crafts of a nation. "

I have always loved mid century modern Design style, specially patterns and textiles from that Period.
Researching for ideas, I came across Thor Hansen's work again and his great achievements in Canadian design and craft history.
I Admire his work, and how he persuaded a Canadian design identity by encouraging the synthesis of craft and folk art.

Fin Garden, or Bagh-e Fin, located in Kashan, Iran, is a historical Persian garden. It contains Kashan's Fin Bath, where Amir Kabir, the Qajarid chancellor, was murdered by an assassin sent by King Nasereddin Shah in 1852. Completed in 1590, the Fin Garden is the oldest extant garden in Iran.
